ABOUT HI FIVE:
Hi-Five was the celebrated R & B group from the 90’s that reunited in 2012. The group itself experienced a number of tragedies. Including, but not limited to, the death of lead singer Tony Thompson and Treston’s own near death experience from gun violence, with no arrests to date. Treston was shot 5 times in the state of Connecticut in 2009 and survived. His strong faith and belief in God moved him to reunite the group.
“Unexpected tragedy is difficult to recover from. Cherish your memories, strengthen your faith, believe that there is a will and a reason to continue on, for tomorrow is not promised. We pray for everyone who has lost loved ones. God bless, you never know” stated group member Marcus Sanders.
Faruq Evans, newest member of Hi-Five, wrote this song in response to his own father’s near death experience. When the Newtown tragedy occurred, the group was moved to dedicate the song and create a video that is a tribute to the families for their so
Hi-Five is an American R&B quintet based out of Waco, Texas who had a string of Top 5 hits in the early and mid 1990s, including the Billboard Hot 100 number one single "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)". The group, which was formed in 1990, consisted of Tony Thompson, Roderick "Pooh" Clark, Marcus Sanders, Russell Neal, and Toriano Easley. Easley was later replaced by Treston Irby.
Hi-Five was signed to Jive Records and released their first album, Hi-Five, in 1990. The album went multi-platinum and was produced by award-winning hitmaker Teddy Riley; it included such singles as "I Just Can't Handle It", "I Can't Wait Another Minute", and their biggest hit to date, "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)", which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard R&B chart. The group enjoyed mainstream success and received comparisons to many of their R&B counterparts, namely New Edition.
Hi-Five's second LP, Keep It Goin' On, came out in 1992. Though not as successful as their debut effort, several tracks from this album, including "She's Playing Hard To Get" and the R. Kelly-penned "Quality Time" got major airplay. Shortly after this album was released, Roderick "Pooh" Clark was involved in a near-fatal automobile accident. In 1993, Hi-Five emerged with a third album, Faithful, which featured the songs "Unconditional Love" and "Never Should Have Let You Go".
After Hi-Five disbanded around 1994, Thompson released a solo album, Sexsational. He scored a minor hit with "I Wanna Love Like That".
In 2005, Thompson re-incarnated Hi-Five with four new members, one of whom is his younger brother, Jordan. Their new album The Return was released in 2006 on Thompson's independent label, N'Depth.
Unfortunately, on June 1st, 2007, the lead singer Tony Thompson passed away in his hometown of Waco, TX. During this time, American R&B quintet This article is about the band. Hi-Five had a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1991 with "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)". The band was originally formed in 1989 as a trio: childhood friends Tony Thompson, Russell Neal, and Oklahoma native, Toriano Easley. Jive Records suggested adding childhood friends, Roderick "Pooh" Clark and Marcus Sanders, to the ensemble and later signed these founding members as Hi-Five. During the release of their debut album, Toriano Easley was charged with a crime, which involved a dispute with his neighborhood friends, rendering him unable to continue with the group. The record label recruited New York native Treston Irby, as a replacement member. After the release of their second album, Russell Neal left the group after financial conflicts with the label. Unfortunately congruently, while the four members of the group were continuing to tour, Roderick "Pooh" Clark was injured in a vehicle collision, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down, resulting in his departure from the group. The label added Shannon Gill and Terrence Murphy as replacement members. When the group decided to accept an offer from Giant records to change labels, while their Jive contract was still pending, Giant records, instead decided to focus their attention on lead singer Tony Thompson, neglecting the projects related to the group.
