Is Rihanna to blame for Rita Ora's label lawsuit? Superstar 'used her influence with Jay Z's company to ensure her rival's career wasn't treated as a priority'

She is one of the most successful pop superstars in the world.

But Rihanna is said to have used to her power in the industry to halt the career of her fellow labelmate Rita Ora.

The Sun is reporting that the Umbrella hitmaker's dominance within Jay Z's Roc Nation record company is one of the major factors for the X Factor judge filing suit to end her contract with the label.

Divas: Rihanna's dominance over Jay Z's Roc Nation label is reportedly said to be one of the major factors Rita Ora has filed suit to end her contract with the company after seven years

It has been alleged that Rihanna gets first choice when it comes to new songs, despite Rita still not having released a follow-up album since her eponymous debut.

A source tells the newspaper: 'Rihanna has never liked Rita and has been using her power at Roc Nation accordingly. Songs that might be submitted to her are automatically given to Rihanna, who may then hold them for months before deciding she doesn’t want them.'

Rita's ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris is also a power player at Roc Nation, famously banning the star from performing I Will Never Let You Down, a track her produced for her during their relationship.

Rita launched legal action to end her relationship with Roc Nation earlier this month, claiming the agreement is in violation of California's 'seven-year rule' and that she has been forgotten about as executives take the business in a new direction.

Rita Ora has addressed rumours of a feud with Rihanna in a new interview special with documentarian Louis Theroux.

Both artists were signed to Roc Nation, the record label owned by Jay Z, though reports of an alleged falling out have circulated for years.

In , Ora sued the label in order to be released from her contract, claiming that she had only been permitted to release one album, despite creating multiple other records.

Roc Nation countersued, before both parties reached a settlement in May

Ora spoke about the experience in the next episode of Louis Theroux Interviews

“Why wasn’t the music coming out?” Theroux asked her, per a preview in Metro.

“I don’t know,” Ora responded. “I was recorded for two or three years straight. There was a whole moment that was about to happen, I recorded a music video and they scrapped it. I felt really disappointed, like I’d let them down.”

“It’s been reported that all the music was going to Rihanna – she was obviously the most established artist – she was getting first refusal on all the music and she’d sit on songs that had been written,” Theroux said. “Either way the result was you couldn’t get a look at it and she had a problem with you.”

“I can’t speak for other people but I think publicly they always put women against each other. I’ve been nothing but a fan and respectful of her and I always will be.”

The Independent has contacted a representative of Rihanna for comment.

Louis Theroux Interviews… continues on BBC Two on Tuesday 29 November at pm.

The Poisonhitmaker has been trailing the clip, which will release on August 21, teasing it is her most ‘intimate’ video yet.
“The video has been shot, it comes out in a week and a half and I can’t wait for you guys to see it. It’s probably one of the most intimate videos I’ve ever done, but it’s really exciting,” Ora had tweeted.
