Just 24 members shot an entire feature film in 43 days. This Bharath Raj directorial turned out to be an adventure of sorts for the cast and crew indeed. Shot right after the lockdown last year, the film’s lead actor and producer Rishab Shettytakes us through the mind space that these 24 members were in while filming in their most challenging situations yet. Take a ride and let Rishab help you discover more…
The film was shot right after the lockdown, and that too in record time. Was it the result of breaking out of lockdown finally for all the members on board?
We had all spent a few months locked up at home. While getting some unexpected time with family is always a blessing, it can get really frustrating without work. There was no shoot, no production, no theatres… what next? This question about what next was what made us decide to work on a film like this. We are entertainers and we need to do what we need to do – even during such challenging times. When someone says a particular thing is not possible, I tend to take it as a challenge and prove that it is possible. That’s what happened with Hero as well. There is a little story about farmers and the gods that never fails to inspire me. When Lord Indra cursed a village of farmers with no rain for 10 years, he also told them that there would be no rain till Lord Shiva plays his damaru. While all the farmers spent their days without working, because anyway there was going to be no rain for 10 years, one farmer kept at his work, year after year. When ridiculed and asked why he was putting in an effort for no returns, the farmer said he was continuing with his work, because at the end of 10 years, when it does rain, he did not want to be in a situation where he had to relearn how to work. He was keeping his routine and practising. Hearing this, Lord Shiva’s wife Parvathy wondered if her husband too would forget to play the damaru

Rishab Shetty discusses Bollywood’s portrayal of India.

Kannada actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty, who gained nationwide acclaim with his 2022 surprise hit Kantara, is once again making headlines. After recently winning a National Film Award for his performance in Kantara, Shetty has been promoting the upcoming Kannada film Laughing Buddha, starring Pramod Shetty. However, it’s a recent interview with MetroSaga that has sparked significant buzz online.

In the interview, a clip of which has gone viral, Rishab Shetty criticised Bollywood for its portrayal of India at international film festivals. Speaking in Kannada, Shetty expressed his frustration with how Bollywood films often depict India negatively on the global stage. He said, “Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet. My nation, my state, my language—my pride. Why not take it on a positive note globally, and that’s what I try to do."

Rishab Shetty is now gearing up for his next major project, Kantara 2, officially titled Kantara: Chapter 1. The highly anticipated film, which also stars Jisshu Sengupta, is expected to hit theaters in early 2025. As per Pinkvilla, the fourth shooting schedule of the film will begin in the last week of August.

Kantara: Chapter 1 is set to be a prequel to the original Kantara, delving deeper into the lore of the Panchurli Deiva during the Kadamba era. Rishab Shetty not only returns as the lead actor but also as the director, with Ajaneesh Loknath reprising his role as the music director, promising another mesmerising score.

Rishab Shetty slams Bollywood, says 'It shows India in a bad light,' netizens troll back 'You pinched a woman's waist in Kantara without her consent'

Rishab Shetty who recently won the National Award for his extraordinary Kantara is under social media storm after few inflammatory words against Bollywood. A clip has gone viral where Shetty, in an interview with MetroSaga, slams Bollywood and says how it shows India in a bad light.

The actor said, “Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet. My nation, my state, my language—my pride. Why not take it on a positive note globally, and that’s what I try to do.”

Netizens trolled him back by reminding him of a scene where he pinched a woman’s waist without her consent.

Shetty, who won the Best Actor Award at the 70th National Film Awards, on Friday said that he will not make “festival type” films anymore.

He was speaking to PTI on the sidelines of a press conference organised for winning the Best Actor Award for his portrayal in the Kannada film ‘  Kantara ’.

The national awards were announced by feature film jury head Rahul Rawail in New Delhi on Friday. The awards celebrated the best films made in 2022.

We premiere at festivals and win awards, but we do not get any platform for that. OTT platforms do not buy Kannada content, so we are forced to put it on YouTube channels. I am done with that. We don’t get any recovery from such films,” said Shetty.

Shetty said he has done three such festival films so far.

“Couple more are in the pipeline – ‘Pedro’ and ‘Vagachipani’. I produced these films because they gave me everything. I wanted to give something back to it. I think I am going to see how it goes in the future,” he added.

Incidentally, ‘  Kantara ’ also won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment Award.
