    With gratitude to God for a life well spent, the African Journal of Traditional Complementary and Alternative Medicines (AJTCAM), announces the death of our distinguished member of the Editorial Board, Late Prof. (Mrs.) Marian Ewurama Addy, a professor of biochemistry whose sad event occurred on the 14 day of January, 2014, at the age of 72 years.

    Until her death, Late Prof. Marian E. Addy was a founding member and first executive secretary of West African Network of Natural Products Research Scientists (WANNPRES); Chairperson of many Scientific Organizations (Ghanaian and International), Advisory Boards and various profound Committees on Health and Scientific Projects (PCPC, WAHO/WHO/FRO, WABPTEX, etc.); Outstanding International Organizations, of which (WANNPRES), is one of such.

    She is survived by husband, and two daughters. We pray the Almighty to grant her gentle soul eternal rest, and comfort to all she left behind.

    Tribute in the Memory of Professor Marian Ewurama Addy

    It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the death of Prof. Marian Addy, an eminent Ghanaian Biochemist, and Plant Medicine Research Scientist on the 14 day of January 2014, at 72 years.

    My first encounter with Professor Addy was at a workshop in July 2007, at the Atomic Energy Commission in Accra, where she represented the WHO/AFRO. The wonderful impact she made on this meeting, led to a friendship we both cherished until her death.

    As a result, I was delighted when in 2008 she was nominated by WAHO to chair the production of the first volume of Herbal Pharmacopoeia for ECOWAS.

    Prof. Addy was the very essence of compassion, astuteness, duty and style. Her self-effacing, passionate, adaptable, and plain-speaking nature, combined with immense leadership skills, endeared her to the hearts of her contemporaries.     Early life and education

    Ewurama Addy was born 7 February 1942 in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region of Ghana, to Samuel Joseph Cole and Angelina Kwofie Cole. She was educated at St Monica's Secondary School in Mampong-Ashanti from January 1956 to June 1960 where she excelled in sports and obtained her 'O' and 'A' level certificates. She also attended the Holy Child Girls' School in Cape Coast. She earned her bachelor's degree with first class honours in botany with chemistry from the University of Ghana, Legon. She later obtained a master's degree and a doctorate in biochemistry from the Pennsylvania State University.
