Robert Griffin III, or RG3-sus, or Bobby Three Sticks has been a lightning rod for a depressed Washington Redskins fanbase this season. Having grown up in Virginia Beach, VA, Redskins Country as much as DC, I have seen this depression firsthand. The Redskins are known to many in the DMV area as the Kings of the Preseason. They have historically signed big-name free agents to massive contracts only to watch the team go 5-11. Even worse, the team has floundered in oppressively boring fashion. You never had the sense that the Redskins could score 27 points if they needed to. Just last season, the team scored more than 20 points in less than half their games (versus nine times in 13 games so far this season).
This is what makes RG3 so exciting. On any given play, Redskins fans believe they are a few seconds away from 7 points. Griffin runs a modified version of the Pistol offense that keeps defenses on their toes every play. The results speak for themselves. Behind Griffin and fellow rookie Alfred Morris, the Redskins have a top ten offense for the first time since World War II…or maybe it just feels that way.
There have been a million descriptions and comparisons of Griffin in print and on television. Tony Kornheiser invoked the most interesting one the other day on his radio show. In his description of Griffin and his impact on the DC area, he compared the rookie to Joe Namath. Each quarterback had a dynamism that extended beyond sports. Namath embodied swagger before it became an overused word in rap. Namath’s bold prediction that his team would upset the favored Baltimore Colts shook the sports landscape and helped legitimize the AFL at the time.
In the same way, RG3 has become the transcendent sports star that DC hasn’t had since…forever? With apologies to Brian Orakpo, Griffin has set himself apart as the celebrity and cultural icon — not just a sports star — that DC has never had. He is already the face for several national advertising campaigns. His ch

Robert Griffin III has been under a microscope ever since the Mike Shanahan era started to go south. Now Griffin is in his second season with current head coach Jay Gruden and things seem to be getting better with the numerous offseason changes that the Redskins have made. Here are five things to know about the former AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowler:

Around the League
This is the age of the young quarterback. Buoyed by the draft class of 2012, we have a surplus of promising young signal-callers. Around The League and "NFL Total Access" will count down the top 10 quarterbacks 25 or under we'd want leading our franchise.
No. 2: Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins
RG3's game is filled with addictive contradictions. He specializes in taking the safe, fundamental throw, but he mixes in explosive plays you can't teach. Everything about his game is fast, from his feet to his decision-making. Yet he shows rare patience for a young player, letting the game come to him. More than any young quarterback, Griffin resembles a veteran because he so rarely makes a mental mistake.
The long runs and longer passes show up on the highlight reels. They are a big part of the package. But Griffin's defining trait as a rookie was the most old-school quarterback habit possible: accuracy. He so rarely misses or goes on cold streaks. Griffin doesn't just find his receivers; he leads them, creating yards after the catch. He hits the perfect shoulder.
In the above video, Griffin put the ball exactly where it had to be on the touchdown to Logan Paulsen, leading him into the end zone. The throw to Josh Morgan was rare in a few ways. Griffin usually doesn't force the ball into that tight a window. If that pass went one foot to the left or right, it would have been an interception. There was about one foot to work with, and Griffin found it.
Another contradiction: Griffin set the NFL on fire while playing in an efficient, conservative offense. The Redskins ran on third and long. They did not throw the ball too much. Griffin led the league in yards per attempt and fewest interceptions per throw, an ideal combination of big plays and careful play.
The Redskins were wildly efficient because Griffin usually made the right choice wi
Robert Griffin III exploded onto the NFL scene with a style and flair anything but typical. With a Heisman Trophy on his mantel, RG3 entered professional football in 2012 under a spotlight that glowed beyond his own team, the Washington Redskins. Could the Baylor graduate electrify the NFL as he had the college game? Could he return a fabled franchise to the realm of elite Super Bowl contenders?
Author Ted Kluck deepens the reader's connection to a man who became the face of a revered NFL franchise before his twenty-third birthday. One player fueled by infectious enthusiasm for his craft. One man whose authenticity somehow seems to match his otherworldly skills on the gridiron. RG3's focus on victory stood second only to the wisdom of his father: "Remember faith first."
Kluck follows RG3's career from the very beginning. In addition, he dives into RG3's relationships with and comparisons to players such as Tim Tebow, Michael Vick, Marcus Lattimore, Kyle Shanahan, Randall Cunningham, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and more.
Robert Griffin III's story surpasses standings and statistics. Succeeding as a professional athlete is a challenge of the first order. Thriving as a cross-cultural phenomenon is the foundation of legends.
