Andy Roddick (ur. 30 sierpnia 1982 w Omaha, Nebraska), tenisista amerykański.

W 2003 dotarł również do półfinałów dwóch innych turniejów wielkoszlemowych - Australian Open (porażka z Niemcem Schuettlerem; zapamiętany został jednak przede wszystkim z ćwierćfinałowego maratonu z Marokańczykiem Younessem El Aynaoui) i Wimbledonu (porażka z pózniejszym triumfatorem, Szwajcarem Federerem). W swoim drugim wielkoszlemowym finale - Wimbledon 2004 - ponownie przegrał z Federerem. Również Federerowi uległ w finale kolejnej edycji Wimbledonu. W 2006 roku wygrał turniej Masters Series na twardych kortach w Cincinnati pokonując w finale Juana Carlosa Ferrero(6:3, 6:4). We wrześniu 2006 roku dotarł do finału US Open gdzie przegrał w 4 setach z Rogerem Federerem.

Reprezentant USA w Pucharze Davisa; trenowany przez Johna Roddicka, a także Jimmy’ego Connorsa.

An Easy Victory for Agassi; Kafelnikov Struggles Again

Andre Agassi and Yevgeny Kafelnikov, the two top-seeded players in the Italian Open, are headed in opposite directions. Agassi easily won his second-round match Wednesday, and Kafelnikov was soundly defeated at Rome.

The top-seeded Agassi defeated Argentine qualifier Gaston Gaudio, 6-1, 6-4, to advance to the third round. Argentine clay-court specialist Mariano Puerta defeated Kafelnikov, 6-4, 6-4, in another uninspiring performance by the second-seeded Russian.

Among the other upset losers were No. 5 Cedric Pioline of France, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5), to Andrei Pavel of Romania; No. 6 Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador, 7-5, 6-4, to Francisco Clavet of Spain; and No. 8 Tim Henman of England, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4, to Fabrice Santoro of France.

Agassi dominated Gaudio, winning the first set in 30 minutes and scoring a decisive break at 3-3 in the second set.

Russia’s Anna Kournikova made a dramatic exit at the German Open, losing in two hours to Spain’s Gala Leon Garcia at Berlin and playing in pain because of an injured ankle.

The teenager, seeded seventh, drew 7,500 spectators to center court but was beaten by the clay-court specialist, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The tournament, already hurt when Serena Williams withdrew because of injury, also lost another big name when three-time champion Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario of Spain lost to Russia’s Elena Dementieva, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Other upsets were South Africa’s Joannette Kruger over No. 2 Nathalie Tauziat of France, 6-2, 6-0; and Argentina’s Paola Suarez over No. 9 Amelie Mauresmo of France, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Indiana University trustees will meet again behind closed doors Sunday, apparently to decide whether to expand the investigation of charges against basketball Coach Bob Knight.

University President Myles Brand in March appointed two trustees to look into accusations that Knight grabbed former player Neil Reed by the throat during a 1997 practice. Since then, other dama

    2008 US Open (tennis)

    Tennis tournament

The 2008 US Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 128th edition of the US Open, and the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. It took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York City, United States, from August 25 through September 8, 2008.

The men's defending champion, Roger Federer, won the US Open for a fifth consecutive time. Justine Henin, the women's defending champion, did not return to defend her title due to her retirement from tennis, for personal reasons, earlier in the year.Serena Williams was the champion on the women's side, winning her third US Open title; she had last won the event in 2002. Federer and Williams's opponents, Andy Murray and Jelena Janković, were making their débuts in Grand Slam finals. World number ones Rafael Nadal and Ana Ivanovic went out in the semifinal and second round, respectively. This was Nadal's best ever result at the US Open; for Ivanovic, it was her second early exit at a Grand Slam since her win at the 2008 French Open.

The home nation had success; Serena Williams was the first American to win a singles title since Andy Roddick in 2003. Twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan won their second US Open title, and Liezel Huber (who became an American citizen in 2007) won the women's doubles with Zimbabwean Cara Black.

    Preparations

The International Tennis Federation and United States Tennis Association offered audiences a number of new ways to access the Open in 2008. A YouTube channel was set up to broadcast highlights, and the official US Open website featured hourly updates of what was happening at the tournament. Multiple matches could be accessed at any one time, on handheld video devices courtesy of American Express. In celebration of the 40th anniversary since the US National Championships became "open" to professionals, a special opening ceremony was h
