Kimora Lee Simmons has opened up about being a “single mom” and her relationships with the fathers of her children.

The model and fashion designer recently spoke with Bustle, where she claimed that she doesn’t have a great co-parenting situation with her past lovers. “I don’t really have a great relationship with any of them and they’ve left me to it to just kind of do things on my own,” she said. “I do everything on my own. Like I say, I’m a single mom.”

The Baby Phat creator shares daughters Aoki, 21, and Ming, 23, with ex-husband Russell Simmons, son Kenzo, 14, with ex Djimon Hounsou, and son Wolfe, 8, with Tim Leissner. The 48-year-old also has an adopted son, Gary, 13.

Further in the conversation, Kimora also spoke on the public dispute between Russell Simmons and his daughter, Aoki on Father’s Day, after Ming wished her mother a Happy Father’s Day instead of her dad.

Russell seemingly responded with an Instagram Story that read, “Stop telling fathers they should have fought harder to see their children & start asking mothers why he had to fight at all.”

Referring to the June event, Kimora recalled, “All my life I just sat there quietly and I took things, but I don’t have to do that. At the end of the day you go to bed, you’re with yourself. You have to be proud of the steps you’ve made and definitely not let somebody bully you or push you over…I don’t care if that’s your dad, your uncle, your friend, someone you don’t know, we’re not going to have it.”

Kimora also revealed that her exes have made her feel “bruised,” but above all, she’s still grateful for all of her children.

Russell Simmons' ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons accused him of engaging in "abusive" behavior, saying that "enough was enough" when it came to going after their family. 

In an Instagram story post Monday, Kimora said that Simmons had been "threatening my kids lives." In a subsequent post, she told Simmons to stay away from their children.

"This narrative of attacking the only caregiver, the only parent in the home with the kids, the mom, AND the kids for one's own shortcomings and embarrassments is dead. Dead. Dead," Kimora wrote in an Instagram story post Monday. 

Kimora and Simmons married in 1998 and share two daughters: Ming Lee Simmons, 23, and Aoki Lee Simmons, 20. They announced their split in 2006 and finalized their divorce in 2009. 

On Monday, People reported that Simmons seemed to reference his ex-wife in an Instagram story post.

"Stop telling fathers that they should have fought harder to see their children & start asking mothers why he had to fight at all," the post said, per People.

In separate Instagram posts on her own account, Aoki Lee Simmons shared screenshots of text conversations with a contact labeled "Daddy." One text, which her post implied was sent by Simmons, accused "your mother" of having "stolen my money and the love of my kids," to which the recipient, implied to be Aoki, responds, "Don't ever say that again."

Aoki's Instagram story went on to show a lengthy text, implied to be sent to Simmons, that said the recipient's actions had given "me panic attacks to the point I was placed on emergency medication

While chatting with PEOPLE in October 2022, Kimora revealed that she's the main caregiver for her five children. "It's usually me by myself with my kid five kids, right? And so in that sense, I do most of the heavy lifting. I do it all. It's not co-[parenting]. It's a trio — me, myself and I," she said.

In June 2023, Kimora defended herself and her children when Russell shared an Instagram Story the day after Father's Day: "Stop telling fathers they should have fought harder to see their children & start asking mothers why he had to fight at all," Russell's post read.

Kimora's post read: "I'm so sorry to have to do this. But this man has been threatening my kids' lives. I'm hearing so much more now. We won't be bullied threatened or afraid." She continued in part, "Leave my kids alone."
