Our very own, Pittsburgh's Action News 4 Anchor Janelle Hall and her husband, John welcomed a new baby girl, named Ashlyn Breanne. Ashlyn was born Tuesday, and weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces. Congratulations to the family.

Janelle is originally from Oil City, Pa. Her career began at two radio stations in her hometown at the age of Janelle graduated from Kent State University with a major in broadcast news and a minor in criminal justice. After college, Janelle was a reporter in Erie, Pa., South Bend, Ind. and served as an anchor for two stations in Ohio. She joined the WTAE news team in
She has earned a multitude of awards including an Emmy and a national William Randolph Hearst journalism award for feature writing.
Outside of the newsroom, Janelle is on the advisory committee of Lending Hearts and is one of the hosts for WTAE’s annual Project Bundle-Up telethon. She has also volunteered her time as an emcee for various charity events for groups like Autism Speaks, the American Heart Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Janelle resides in the North Hills area with her husband and three children.

Janelle started reporting when she was still a teenager, back in her days at Oil City High School. At age 16, her mother drove Janelle to her radio remotes.

During one of those assignments, an embarrassing moment turned into a memorable one at the Autumn Leaf Festival in Clarion.

Janelle was all set to interview wrestler Kurt Angle, the Mt. Lebanon native and Clarion University graduate who had just won an Olympic gold medal, when her radio equipment stopped working.

She'll never forget how kind Angle was by agreeing to record their interview over a pay phone. (Remember those?) That way, her manager back at the radio station could tape it and they could air the report later.

An incredible memory came when Janelle was working as a DJ at WRJS-FM in Franklin during her senior year at Oil City.

She was working on reports that would air during commercial breaks on "Casey's Top " Imagine her surprise when she suddenly heard Casey Kasem read a request and dedication from "a year-old girl in Pennsylvania named Brea."

Kasem was talking about Janelle's younger sister! Brea requested the dedication because she was sad that Janelle would soon be leaving home and going to Kent State University.

She hails from Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania, making her a White American. The reporter was born to American parents, whose names have not yet been released, and has a sister, Brea, who is a good photographer. As a student at Oil City High School, Janelle was quite passionate about the game of basketball and often attended the YMCA to compete with the boys. In fact, she still holds a record for three-pointers and helps out at school. Well, she got interested in the game of basketball after years of watching her grandpa who was a basketball coach. She also played as a shooting guard for Amateur Union (AAU) Pittsburgh Bruins. During her college years, Janelle recorded a documentary about her grandfathers experience with World World II. He was well involved in the war and a fighter. After a few months of watching the documentary with his family, he moved on. Janelle Hall joined WTAE-TV in September. WTAE-TV is a virtual channel 4 station affiliated with ABC TV network.
