Pankaj Tripathi, a name so common now was not so common even till a few years back. Mr. Tripathi’s ride to stardom was bumpy and not at all a smooth sailing but he steered through it well and today the world is a witness to it.

Pankaj Tripathi’s journey has all of the elements to offer from dreams too big, struggles, drama, rejections to finally making his mark. He was born in a farmer’s family in Belsand village of Gopalganj District in Bihar. A very remote area which even got access to roads just a few years back. This was what pumped him to take up acting as his profession.

After a brief stint at hotel management training after finishing school, he tried to get into National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi but realized that the eligibility was that of being a graduate. He took up Hindi literature as his subject for graduation while working for a hotel in the night shifts and performing plays later in the day. After being rejected twice by NSD, he finally made it and by now he had already done 35 plays. After NSD he moved to Mumbai with limited resources and big dreams. Pankaj Tripathi’s rise to fame is nothing short of inspiring. Today, he is regarded as one of Bollywood's most talented and versatile actors. However, his journey from a small village in Bihar to the bustling streets of Mumbai was far from easy. What’s even more remarkable is how an unmet dream—one that many might consider trivial—set him on the path to becoming an actor.

    Pankaj Tripathi’s Tractor Dream

Growing up in a modest farmer’s family, Pankaj Tripathi harbored a simple but significant wish during his younger years: to own a tractor. “When I was younger, I dreamt of owning a tractor. It was something I felt I needed, especially because my father couldn’t afford it,” Pankaj shared in a 2019 interview for a cultural programme. For him, the tractor symbolized stability, independence, and the possibility of a life grounded in farming. But life had different plans.

Initially, Pankaj did not see acting as a viable career. Encouraged by his father, he aimed for a more conventional path: becoming a doctor. His journey took him to Patna, where he enrolled in a hotel management course, but life had other plans. The world of acting beckoned, and he soon realized that his true passion lay in performing.

Pankaj’s journey into the entertainment industry wasn’t without hurdles. He first tried his hand at theater, balancing his day job in a hotel with his evening acting pursuits. After several years of struggle and determination, he finally applied to the National School of Drama (NSD), but he faced multiple rejections. “I was rejected three times before I finally made it to NSD,” he said. The road to success wasn’t easy, but his persistence paid off when he was eventually accepted into one of India’s most prestigious drama schools.
